New Balance MT580 “Wanted”

The first of the New Balance Elite Edition ‘Wanted Pack’ drops is hitting stores now.  ThisNew Balance MT580 going for the time-tested suede and mesh build, which is predominately tonal black with grey coming in at the rear, so as to accentuate the MT’s signature Rollbar stability cushion in pure white.  This greyscale makeup has a timeless feel thanks to its subdued approach, but the way these are colorblocked is distinctly a modern phenomenon, the kind of progression that we can realize now having had so much sneaker history to call upon.  Check out the ‘Wanted’ MT580MBK in more photos below, then pick up yours from New Bal stores like SNS.

Oshman’s x New Balance 1600

The New Balance 1600 has played a role in a couple of packs of late, starting with the Propaganda edition and most recently in the Mugshot pack.  This 1994 runner is starting to gain some serious traction, and with the aid of collaborations like UBIQ’s ‘Benjamin’ and the new one pictured above, it’s only a matter of time before this previously obscure silhouette assumes its rightful place among the pantheon of NB classics.  Guest designer Oshman’scontributes its own legacy, outfitting the 1600 in navy and black with contrast stitching and golden eyelets.  They’re dropping this Saturday in Asia, and apparently Detroit’s Burn Rubber will also have some sizes as well.

New Balance 576 “Camo” – Grey – Red

New Balance is one of only a couple of sneaker brands who have approached the current levels of camo-saturation with any sort of restraint. Adding to a small number of pairs that go with those splotchy prints is a new duo of New Balance 576 releases. Strangely enough they are of the Made in USA persuasion, a little detail that certainly comes as a curveball for anyone familiar with this silhouette. West NYC x Saucony Shadow 5000 “Cabin Fever”: Seasonal Heat

It seems like retro running collaborations are all the rage right now, and every brand is eager to team up with the right creative partners to push their products into the spotlight. With an overwhelming amount of options in the market, both in terms of collabs and desirable general releases, anyone sitting down to the design table these days is faced with the daunting task of trying to create something to stand out from the crowd. And even though it feels at times like we’ve seen it all when it comes to different color combos and material makeups on a running shoe, somehow there are still plenty of pleasant surprises emerging on a regular basis.

For West NYC, it’s becoming business as usual as they continue to make it look easy thanks to some cool concepts and ’90s-inspired color palettes. First it was last year’s universally acclaimed “Alpine Guide” New Balance MT580 followed by the “Tequila Sunrise” Saucony Shadow 5000 earlier this fall, both times hitting the nail on the head with appealing renditions that instantly resonated with fans of retro runners and collab-hungry collectors alike.

Now poised to follow up on the success of the Tequila Sunrise with a completely different take on the Shadow 5000, West hits us with the “Cabin Fever” edition – an autumn-approved make-up that takes the classic running model into rugged new territory. Using outdoorsy fall-inspired colors and some more cold weather-friendly materials to bring the “Cabin Fever” story to life, West once again demonstrates a keen eye for parlaying ’90s-informed concepts into contemporary crowd pleasers.

We caught up with West owner and running shoe aficionado, Lester Wasserman, to pick his brain about the “Cabin Fever” Shadow 5000 and more, so continue on for the full interview, as well as a gallery of images caught in the wild to capture the shoe in its natural wilderness habitat. To get a pair for yourself, make plans to hit up West NYC this Saturday, November 9th for the official in-store release. CNCPTS x FILA Original Tennis: Classics Remastered

There are certain models, styles and even brands that only seem to look right when they’re done up in heritage-based colorways. And while that may work to the detriment of big picture sales, there’s something to be said for a shoe looking so right as is, that there’s almost zero room to change it up. In many cases, this is a gift and curse that Fila knows all too well. Even with a slew of classic silhouettes at their disposal, there are a handful of easily identifiable Fila color schemes that are so iconic within the brand, that it can be incredibly difficult to switch up the formula and still have the same impact.

As a result, Fila collaborations have been pretty few and far between in recent years and it’s rare that newer colorways have made much noise for the simple fact that the shoes rarely seem to resonate with consumers without some sort of classic navy/red or green/red elements worked into the mix. While Fila has had a comeback year in the retro basketball realm with the resurrection of the Grant Hill and Jerry Stackhouse signature models, when it comes to the tennis category that was such a street style staple of the ’80s and early ’90s, it’s been a while since the original cornerstone of the brand has returned to its former glory.

Recognizing the brand’s significance in sneaker history and the fact that there are plenty of Fila-heads still out there ready to scoop up a fresh pair when they’re done correctly, renowned Boston shop, Concepts, has taken it upon themselves to get the ball rolling. Rather than going down the potentially treacherous new colorway road discussed earlier, Concepts pays tribute to the classics, putting a contemporary luxe spin on the Original Tennis silhouette via some tried and true Fila color combos.

The CNCPTS crew has whipped up two versions of the shoe using premium material make-ups to update the originals and adding some additional style touches to further spice things up a bit. Also featuring gold foil co-branding on the insoles, a cool hangtag and tennis ball, as well as a special custom box, Concepts manages to keep the shoes clean and traditional while still throwing in some nice extras to further sweeten the deal. Ronnie Fieg x New Balance 1600 – Teaser

Remember when we told you that Ronnie Fieg had a New Balance 1600 coming up? Pictured here is the first glimpse at the shoe. In typical Fieg fashion we’re not allowed to see the whole thing just yet, but the pieces shown do give us an idea of what to expect colors and materials wise. The shoe looks to be a pink and tan affair that has a good bit of perforated leather-which is a particular choice we can’t ever remember seeing on the New Balance 1600 before.
